In First Attempt, UVa Student Team Wins National Cybersecurity Championship

Cyber Security Champs

A team of UVa students competing for the first time in National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition held in Orlando, Florida on April 13-15th took home the first place trophy.  The teams competing were:

  • Utah Valley University
  • Dakota State Universtiy
  • University of Alaska Fairbanks
  • Baylor University
  • University of Buffalo
  • University of Washington
  • California State University Northridge
  • University of Virginia
  • Indiana Institute of Technology
  • University of Central Florida

The team earned the national title by successfully protecting a fictional biotech firm's network against cyber attacks from top security experts posing as hackers.

The UVa team was: Roman Bohuk, Daniel Chen, Quintin DeGroot, Mariah Kenny, Abbas Naderi-Afooshteh, Paul Sanders, and Jake Smith.
